Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness.
  3. Set up a dredging station: In one bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, crush the pretzels into fine crumbs.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in the seasoned flour, shake off excess, dip in beaten eggs, and then coat in crushed pretzels, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs stick.
  5. Place the coated chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).
  6. While the chicken is baking, prepare the mustard cheddar sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 2 tablespoons of flour to create a roux, cooking for about 1 minute until it bubbles. Gradually whisk in 1 cup of milk until smooth and thickened.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard until melted and combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
