  • 1 lb lean ground beef (80/20 or 90/10)
  • 2 cups finely chopped green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 small diced onion
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Italian seasoning or paprika to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Finely chop about 2 cups of green cabbage.
  3. In a skillet, heat a teaspoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add one small diced onion and two minced garlic cloves. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic, chopped cabbage, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, one beaten egg, salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you desire. Mix everything until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  5. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into patties, about ½ inch thick.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
  7. Place the patties on the baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  8. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  9. Once done, let the burgers rest for a few minutes before serving.
