Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • 23 star anise pods
  • 56 whole cloves
  • a small strip of orange peel
  • 2 ounces non-alcoholic spirit alternative (or omit for a pure mocktail)
  • 1 ounce non-alcoholic orange syrup alternative (or a dash of orange extract diluted)
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1.5 ounces cranberry juice (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
  • 0.751 ounce spiced simple syrup (adjust to your desired sweetness)
  • sugar for rim (plain or mixed with cinnamon/nutmeg)
  • fresh or frozen cranberries for garnish
  • lime wheel or wedge for garnish
  • cinnamon stick for garnish
  • sprig of fresh rosemary for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Spiced Simple Syrup (if making from scratch): In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2-3 cinnamon sticks, 2-3 star anise pods, 5-6 whole cloves, and a small strip of orange peel. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and let it gently simmer for about 10-15 minutes to allow the spices to infuse. Remove from heat, let it cool completely, then strain out the spices.
  2. Prepare Your Glass: Decide on your rim. Pour a shallow layer of your chosen sugar (plain, or mixed with cinnamon/nutmeg) onto a small plate. Take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of your margarita or cocktail glass. Then, gently dip the moistened rim into the sugar, rotating to coat evenly. Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice.
  3. Combine Ingredients in a Shaker: Into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 2 ounces non-alcoholic spirit alternative (or omit for a pure mocktail), 1 ounce non-alcoholic orange syrup alternative (or a dash of orange extract diluted), 1 ounce fresh lime juice, 1.5 ounces cranberry juice (unsweetened or lightly sweetened), and 0.75 – 1 ounce spiced simple syrup (adjust to your desired sweetness).
  4. Shake Well: Secure the lid on your shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.
  5. Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture from the shaker into your prepared glass over the fresh ice.
  6. Garnish and Enjoy: Add your chosen festive garnishes – a few fresh or frozen cranberries, a lime wheel, and a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.

Keywords: You can prepare a larger batch of the Spiced Christmas Margarita mix ahead of time and store it in a pitcher in the refrigerator. Adjust sweetness and spice according to your preference, and consider using large ice cubes to prevent dilution.
