Enjoy the deliciousness of Chicken Cordon Bleu, where tender chicken breasts are filled with savory ham and melted Swiss cheese, all encased in a crispy breadcrumb coating. This dish is perfect for a special occasion or a cozy family dinner!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of ham (preferably thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Gently pound to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  3. Season both sides of each chicken breast with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  4. On one side of each chicken breast, place a slice of ham followed by a slice of Swiss cheese.
  5. Starting from the side with the ham and cheese, roll the chicken tightly and tuck in the sides. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
  6. Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and breadcrumbs mixed with salt and pepper in the third.
  7. Coat each rolled chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess.
  8. Dip the floured chicken into the beaten eggs, ensuring full coverage.
  9. Roll the chicken in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  10. In a large skillet, heat enough vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  11. Carefully place the breaded chicken rolls in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  12. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  13. Place the chicken rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-15 minutes for extra crispiness.
  14. Carefully remove any toothpicks used to secure the chicken.
  15. Slice each roll into medallions and serve with lemon wedges for a fresh burst of flavor.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the chicken in a mixture of lemon juice and herbs before assembling.
  • Serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
