This Cranberry Cream Cheese Dip features a creamy base blended with sweet and tangy cranberries, making it an ideal appetizer for any occasion. Serve it with crackers, pretzels, or sliced apples for a festive and delicious treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Assorted crackers, pretzels, or sliced apples for serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water. If using frozen cranberries, they can go straight into the pot.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries and granulated sugar, stirring well to coat the cranberries.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries start to burst and release their juices (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  5. For a smoother dip, mash the cranberries slightly with a fork or potato masher; for a chunkier texture, leave them as is.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese.
  7. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the cream cheese on medium speed until creamy and smooth (about 2-3 minutes).
  8. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and fluffy (about another 2 minutes).
  9. Add the sour cream and salt, beating until fully incorporated.
  10. Fold the cooled cranberry mixture into the cream cheese mixture using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
  11. If using nuts, fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts.
  12. Taste the dip and add more powdered sugar if desired for additional sweetness.
  13. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a lid.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld and the dip to firm up.
  15. Remove the dip from the refrigerator and stir to restore creamy consistency.
  16. Garnish with chopped green onions for color and freshness.
  17. Serve with assorted crackers, pretzels, or sliced apples. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For added spice, mix in a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese base.
  • For a healthier version, substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream.
