This fresh and zesty salsa combines cilantro, tomatoes, red onion, and jalapeños for a vibrant dip or topping. Easy to prepare and bursting with flavor, it’s perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 12 jalapeño peppers, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the fresh cilantro under cold water, shake off excess water, and chop finely.
  2. Cut the tomatoes into small, even pieces, removing seeds if desired.
  3. Peel and chop the red onion finely. Soak in cold water for 10 minutes if the flavor is too strong.
  4. Slice jalapeños in half, remove seeds and membranes, and chop finely. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
  5. Peel and mince the garlic cloves finely.
  6. Cut limes in half and extract juice, catching any seeds.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, combine cilantro, tomatoes, red onion, jalapeños, and garlic.
  8. Pour lime juice over the mixture, then add cumin, salt, black pepper, and olive oil (if using).
  9. Gently mix all ingredients together until well combined, folding to avoid mushy tomatoes.
  10. Taste the salsa and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more jalapeño for heat or lime juice for balance.
  11. Cover the bowl or transfer to an airtight container and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to meld flavors.
  12. After chilling, taste again and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  13. Serve with tortilla chips in a colorful bowl.
  14. Use as a topping for grilled chicken, fish tacos, or salads.
  15. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days, stirring before serving.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, consider adding diced avocado.
  • Adjust the heat level by varying the amount of jalapeño used.
  • Letting the salsa sit longer enhances the flavors even more.
