Ingredients

  • Ground Beef (80/20 or 90/10 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Garlic Powder (optional)
  • Smoked Paprika (optional)
  • Hash Browns (frozen shredded or patties, or homemade)
  • Fresh Large Eggs
  • American Cheese slices (or Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss)
  • Crisp Lettuce (shredded romaine or iceberg)
  • Tomato Slices
  • Pickles (dill pickle slices)
  • Onion (thinly sliced red onion or caramelized onions)
  • Bacon (optional, crispy beef bacon or turkey bacon)
  • Burger Sauce (ketchup, mayo, mustard, pickle relish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Hash Browns: If using frozen shredded hash browns, spread them in an even layer on a large baking sheet (if baking) or a hot, oiled skillet (if pan-frying). Season with salt and pepper. Cook according to package directions until they are deeply golden brown and wonderfully crispy. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes in the oven at 400°F (200°C) or 10-15 minutes in a skillet, flipping halfway. If using hash brown patties, simply cook them as directed until golden and firm. Once cooked, remove them from the heat and set aside, keeping them warm if possible.
  2. Form and Cook Your Burger Patties: While your hash browns are cooking, gently form your ground beef into two roughly 1/2-inch thick patties. Don't overwork the meat, as this can make them tough. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, and any other desired seasonings (like garlic powder or smoked paprika). Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Add a tiny drizzle of oil if your beef isn't very fatty. Once the pan is hot, place the patties in. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness. For the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty, cover the skillet, and let it melt beautifully. Remove the cheeseburger patties from the pan and set them aside.
  3. Fry Your Eggs: In the same skillet (or a separate non-stick pan if you prefer), reduce the heat to medium-low. If needed, add a small pat of butter or a tiny bit more oil. Crack your eggs directly into the pan. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the whites are set and the yolks are still wonderfully runny, usually 2-3 minutes for sunny-side up or over-easy. If you like over-medium, cook a bit longer until the yolk is slightly jammy but not fully firm.
  4. Assemble Your Breakfast Burger Bowls: Divide the crispy hash browns evenly between two bowls. Place one cheesy burger patty on top of the hash browns in each bowl. Carefully slide a perfectly fried egg on top of each burger patty. Finally, add your desired fresh toppings: a handful of shredded lettuce, a few tomato slices, some dill pickle slices, and thin red onion rings. If you're using beef bacon, crumble it over the top now.
  5. Serve Immediately: Drizzle with your favorite burger sauce, ketchup, or a dash of hot sauce. Serve your Breakfast Burger Bowl with Fried Egg and Hash Browns right away and enjoy the symphony of flavors and textures!

Keywords: For crispy hash browns, avoid overcrowding the pan and ensure they are cooked until deeply golden. For the perfect runny yolk, cook the egg on medium-low heat. Customize your toppings to include avocado, sautéed mushrooms, or different types of pickles.
