Enjoy the sweet and floral taste of homemade Blueberry Lavender Syrup, perfect for pancakes, cocktails, and desserts. Made with fresh blueberries and aromatic lavender, this unique syrup adds a delightful twist to your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather Your Ingredients: Start by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure your blueberries are fresh and ripe for the best flavor. Frozen blueberries can be used but may alter the texture slightly.
  2. Rinse the Blueberries: Place the blueberries in a colander and rinse them under cold water. Gently shake the colander to remove excess water.
  3. Combine Ingredients in a Saucepan: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rinsed blueberries, sugar, and water. Stir gently to mix.
  4. Add Lavender: Add the dried culinary lavender to the saucepan to infuse the syrup with a floral note.
  5. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves (about 5 minutes). The blueberries will start to break down.
  6. Simmer the Syrup: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Mash the Blueberries: Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to gently mash the blueberries, releasing more juice and flavor.
  8. Strain the Mixture: Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl or another saucepan. Pour the blueberry mixture into the strainer, pressing down on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
  9. Add Lemon Juice and Vanilla: Return the strained syrup to the saucepan. Stir in the lemon juice and vanilla extract (if using).
  10. Simmer Again: Bring the syrup back to a gentle simmer for another 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  11. Cool the Syrup: Remove from heat and let it cool in the saucepan for 10-15 minutes. The syrup will thicken more as it cools.
  12. Store the Syrup: Transfer the cooled syrup to a clean glass jar or bottle. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Use high-quality blueberries and culinary lavender for the best flavor.
  • Ensure the syrup is stored in a clean, airtight container in the refrigerator.
